Now that you’ve got everything all set, it’s time to go out there and get your first locksmith customer. You can do this a number of ways, from putting out ads, to sitting on the sidewalk and using a taser to keep people from walking passed your shop. Though, I wouldn’t really suggest that last one.

Every market is different, so play around with different methods and track your results. Figure out which method brings in the most people, and you can push hard with that method.

Craigslist / Angie’s List / Newspapers

This is the cheapest and easiest way to get your name out there, and probably what most people will do first. The long-term potential here is low, and it can become expensive in time. But when you have little to no money, time is what you can afford to spend. Get your name on these sites, and get your company in front of people. That’s the name of the game.

Police Department Meet Ups

Whenever you get a chance to meet your local police officers, without the risk of going to jail, is a good opportunity for networking. Police departments can be a huge source of referral business, so get in contact with them as soon as possible.

Real Estate Investor Meetings

Real Estate Investors are going to want you to change locks. That’s a given. If your business focuses on residential, you would be remiss not to reach out to this group of potentially valuable clients.
